Rum Cay is truly a fisherman's paradise! Surrounded by some of the most productive fishing grounds in the entire Bahamas, Rum Cay is off the beaten track offering unspoiled fishing grounds with very little boat traffic. Many experienced anglers and boat owners travel long distances just to fish these waters.

Two Points of Success

As pictured there are two prominent 'points' that stick out off of the south-east and north-east ends of Rum Cay. These two points provide structure which holds big game fish year round. As the current sweeping up from the south hits these points, upwelling occurs and creates the perfect conditions for species such as yellow fin tuna, Wahoo, dorado and marlin. When fishing the South-East Point lines can be dropped into the water as soon as you clear the outer reef. The North-East point is 10 miles to the north and, often times, trolling between the two points along the 'edge' will produce excellent results.

The reefs and drop offs around Rum Cay are nothing short of spectacular. The diving, both inshore and on the edge is wonderful. These reefs are home to many varieties of grouper and snapper. On the lee side of the island you'll find Sandy Point where the drop off is within a stone's throw of the beach.

On the south side of the island, 1 mile from the marina entrance, is the famous "Salt Pond" where bonefish and tarpon can be pursued. The salt pond is all that remains of a once thriving salt mining industry on the island. This is another 'must see' on Rum Cay.
