Wahoo: A Fall and Winter Thing Rum Cay has become famous for the giant Wahoo that take up residence around the island in the fall and winter months. These fish are caught year round, but if you want the best chance at catching a lot of them, visit us between November and March.
YellowFin Tuna: Springtime Bite. The main run of yellow fin tuna typically begins in March and continues into June. Like the Wahoo, tuna are caught in Rum Cay year round, but the springtime is the most productive. The yellow fin range in size from 25 lbs. up to100 lbs. with the majority of the fish in the 35-55 pound range.
Marlin: Best spot in the Islands? The main body of fish normally moves in with the first new moon in May and the bite can stay hot right through the entire summer. June has become one of the best months to target blue marlin at Rum and 3-5 shots a day is typical when the fish are on. The blue marlin in this area of the Bahamas average 200-350 lbs. with larger fish being caught frequently.
